i’ve had that Anaïs Nin quote, “i was ashamed to take so i gave. it was not a virtue. it was a disguise.” stuck in my head for a while. i truly believed it did not relate to me whatsoever, but when i stand back and evaluate how i perceive my relationships with others, especially romantically, it’s painfully clear i’m not comfortable demanding basic things that should be offered without asking. it’s almost as if i feel like i should be greateful they even chose to spend time with me, and asking for more would push them away.
