#idk#i keep seeing this and its kind of a little infuriating that any show that has representation is a show we cant criticize
Why is every post about “cop propaganda on TV” about brooklyn 99, a lighthearted comedy, and not Cops, a 30-year-long show whose entire content is “Watch Officers Chase Down and Arrest These Horrible Criminals In Real Life to Keep You Safe” that has actually been studied to vastly over-represent black men as perpetrators and white people as victims or non-violent offenders and has a measurable effect on its viewers perceptions of police and of races different from their own.
Weird how one of the most diverse, inclusive comedies on TV right now is taking the most criticism in this area.
No offense as I know some of my mutuals believe otherwise but it is traumatizing kind of to see the exact people who kill - no matter the gender or racial background - you every day humanized by a show meant to specifically target certain groups in order to make the show more appealing for those watching. I think it’s a good time for us to remember that shows only do this to gain a following for other minorities that were previously inaccessible and, by all means, B99 is perfect representation for those who require it but you can’t get mad at people for finding it to be problematic (especially black people) because for us..cops have been nothing but a bad omen and seeing that on TV when people forget about the issues at hand is somewhat..unsettling. You’re allowed to like what you like but we all knows Cops is just as problematic as B99 and there are people who don’t like both.
