honestly being native and black means there is no room for both in some aspects of the culture. as a child i was told that i could only fit into one version of what i was and that was either native or black and it’s…suffocating tbh. i know a lot of issues concerning the native american community aren’t really highlighted on much in regards to this site but i do know that a lot of my childhood was me frantically trying to piece together my identity without severing the whole image others wanted me to be. i faced a lot of anti-blackness from my native side and a lot of cultural ignorance from the black side of my family and it didn’t make it better that a lot of these beliefs were rooted in the fact that they had been taken from the worst parts of southern ideologies. it’s…traumatizing to say the least. this is why i wanna say to the many out there that are black and ndn that u don’t have to juggle ur racial background lightly and u shouldn’t have to. ur both and that’s beautiful. take some time to heal urself from where those closest to u may have hurt u with their ignorance and be extremely proud of what u are and who u are.
if you’re a non-black woc or a white woman then you need to sit down and actively think about whether your activism is deeply rooted in anti-blackness and is actually beneficial for black people. i see a lot of supposed “activists” on here claiming that they rep for black people then turning around and doing some weird and creepy shit like fetishizing black people or isolating them from certain groups. when u speak about black people then u need to know that ur opinions come secondhand to what we’ve experienced and that we don’t need u as a spokesperson for us. a lot of u tend to speak over the issues of black people and call it “activism” but it is neither helpful nor progressive when u pretend to act as if u know the specific types of racism a black person encounters. our issues are vastly different from yours and so are our terms. learn about these issues and adjust accordingly but do not think for one second that ur opinion is warranted when a discussion on these matters within the black community is brought up.
okay im seeing a lot of people interject posts about the movie crazy rich asians with their laments about how black panther received so much attention and a lot of anti-black bullshit and honestly y’all need to learn how to upraise a group of minorities without tearing down the other especially when it concerns black people.

Why Hamilton is problematic.
We all have heard of the play Hamilton in one way or another whether it be from the media, our friends, or some crusty old cracker who thinks their Founding Fathers are “sweet cinnamon rolls” that “should be respected” for “saving America.” If you have not heard of aforementioned play, it was created by a man named Lin Manuel-Miranda and it is highly debatable amongst POC as a whole right now due to the way it has been glorified for the past…month or so?? Anyways, I’m here to burst your bubble and explain to you the harmful effects of this play and how it is not beneficial to any POC portraying a role as a racist, abusive, and disgusting Founding Father or politician.
Let’s start with the “diversity” people have been ranting and raving about which is- albeit nice to see- detrimental to the whole plot of the play.
First off, A PERSON OF COLOR PLAYING THEIR OPPRESSOR IS IN NO WAY BENEFICIAL TO ANYTHING.
These characters of color are playing men who would have most likely killed them, abused them, and taken them in as slaves. They are playing men who were manipulative and all around harmful, they are playing rapists, they are playing dumbass fools who did nothing for civil rights and cared not for POC. It doesn’t help in any way that this cast is diverse due to the fact that the characters they are playing were more liable to kill POC than assist them.
Second off, LIN MANUEL-MIRANDA IS A NON-BLACK POC EXPLOITING BLACK CULTURE AND MUSIC TO PUSH FORWARD THE PLOT OF HIS PLAY.
Now, I don’t really care whether or not you think this is just me being an asshole. My point is that if an all-white cast was shuckin’ and jivin’ and rappin’ with the same storyline as this, non-black POC would have been mad as hell (or possibly not). We can not ignore that this man has simply taken aspects of what is deemed “black music” and utilized it as a profit to sing the Holy praises of men who were fucking murderers. We can not ignore that. It is absolutely amazing to see how y'all look past that for the fact that there are people of color. JUST BECAUSE WE ARE REPRESENTED IN SOMETHING DOES NOT MEAN IT CAN NOT BE FUCKING TOXIC. Chill with this “diversity” route, it still won’t plead the case I’m trying to make.(edited)
Third off, THIS PLAY IS ANOTHER FUCKING EXCUSE FOR WHITE PEOPLE TO COLLECTIVELY AGREE THAT THEIR FOUNDING FATHERS WEREN’T “AS BAD” AS THEY SHOULD HAVE BEEN SEEN.

This play is an outlet for white people to use us as pawns, I’m not kidding. It ain’t a case of an opinion, it’s a case of fact. It’s disturbing for people who were descendants of fucking slaves to have to look at their TV and see motherfuckers glorifying the shit out of the men who slaughtered their family and raped their women and men. It’s disturbing to see non-black POC and some black people (including what I was doing) to sing out that this play is diverse when WE HAVE OTHER PLAYS THAT ARE NOT TOXIC AND HAVE A CAST FILLED TO THE BRIM WITH PEOPLE OF COLOR. Let’s face it, this play is wrong. It’s really fucking wrong. It’s a play romanticizing the shit that we tried to escape for years and are still trying to escape.
This whole fucking play could have been glorious had it pushed towards actual POC who were activists during that time period, if it could have told the true story of the Founding Fathers and how absolutely shitty they were. This play could have been something had it been truthful and it wasn’t. Stop with this shit. It needs to stop. Hamilton is not good at all. Y'all need to wake yourselves up.
The conflict with white women and the subject of racism as a feminist is that they are subject to these beliefs that they deserve a medal for treating others with respect, their entitlement and privilege puts them in a position where they believe that “schooling” others is an instant pursuit rather than listening to POC on issues they face. The institution of white privilege is something that most white people don’t want to accept they have and it’s hard to speak up when you’re constantly being told “culture is meant to be shared” and “slavery is over, get over it.” It’s easy for you to say but it is not easy for POC to do. It is unnecessary that children of color are being taught eurocentric views in their curriculum, it is unnecessary that someone has to see their culture on display as a costume, and it is unnecessary that women of color are still being discriminated against and oppressed. Yes, we do have an issue as women and yes, white women are also put down by men. But it is and never will be because of their skin color, in fact, that’s their benefit. Their skin color is the exact thing they benefit from. Caring only about the issues that your privilege provides you with and ignoring the social issues that WOC face is another standard reason as to why White Feminism is harmful. Unless that suffices to change, there will always be a divide
